This is probably a dumb question, not my first, I just bought a 1977 115 that has no power trim and tilt. I have never owned a motor that didnt have it so what happens when you put the motor in reverse? It seems the prop would be trying to come out of the water.

When the motor is shifted into reverse, reverse lock pushes reverse lock hooks, port and starboard, over the thrust rod at the bottom of the transom bracket. It takes considerable force to release it; the manual states "750 to 900 lbs.".

The manual tilt has tilt cylinders that assists in lifting the engine. If they are still functioning, it makes manual tilting of the engine fairly easy.

When the lift lever is in the run position, it is a friction lock that holds the engine down. Being a friction lock, it will release in case of an impact.
