1976 Johnson 9.9 Pee Hole

I'm in the process of buying an old Johnson 1976 9.9 hp and not sure where to find the pee hole for the water pump. on my old 1984 evinrude it was under the cowl on the right hand side. this motor seems to be pumping water out of a small hole on the lower unit left side. Is this correct? Thanks.

'77/'78 might have been the first year. My '83 and '84 has it under the right side (from rear of motor), '91 too. Could probably install an elbow like your '84 had. If it's not overheating, might want to just change out the impeller, put in a t.stat (or insure it's working), and run it. The t.stat would be down there on the bottom like on your '84, but the t.stat cover not quite as reliable IMO -- lower left at spring is under tension, but no bolt.

edit. Did you mean to refer to the lower unit or to the pan under the powerhead (left side)? not sure where the '77 tell tale was routed. could have gone around the back and out on the lower left pan/lower cowling.

1974-76 don't have them they will spray water out of the exhaust relief holes. You must be running it on muffs water will come out of the lower unit not related to the water pump thats a cooling/drain hole. You will see water come out of the holes above the prop /the prop and the exhaust reliefs

First Thanks for the prompt replies! After a little more research it seems they didn't put those on until after 1976. The guy I'm buying it from is a neighbor' and he just let me take it and use it for the night to try it out and see if I was satisfied with it before I bought it. My 2 sons took it out last night and I didn't want them to burn up his motor as I was a little concerned about a motor been sitting for a while may not be pumping good. But all seemed to go well last night so I think its a good one. Thanks.
