Looking at a boat with a 76 135 Johnny. Anything in particular to look for on this engine? I checked compression and got 120 psi on all 4. Any history on this motor, good or not good, would help. Thanks, Mike.

from the info given id say that its a pretty good engine just from the compression in the cyls. take a good look under the cowling and see if its clean and check to see if there is anything that doesnt look right. also, if possible maybe do a water test too and see for yourself how it actually runs.

Pull the lower unit drain screw and see what comes out. You want good fluid, not milky and no metal shavings. Fluid may have been changed prior to putting it up for sale though.

although it will not perform with the 135's of the day, this was a good motor in its day. I had a 76 Skeeter SS7 with a '76 135 with TNT and it ran a little over 50 mph. I lost a stator on season but no other problems!
