I have just aquired a little 4hp rude, it was my grandpas. Hasn't been run in a few years. It is a real clean looking motor. I need a manual for it to start but what should I do first with the motor? Any recomendations on where to start with it.
thanks,
jdt

Howdy jdt.

Start in the Engine FAQ on reviving a sleeping outboard.

Get an OEM Service Manual reprint from kencook.com

That is a version of the greatest small outboard ever. Treat her well and she will make you love her. :)

Thanks JB,
I checked it out and printed it off. That will give me a good idea of where to start and finish. I have to order a manual yet. I learned my lesson with the seloc manual I bought for my other motor and will never buy theirs. It sucks!
Thanks again

I always hear about people hating the SELOC manuals. But, to be honest with ya, we love ours. We used it when cleaning the carbs in the 4. Now, when trying to get the 50 running last weekend, we used it as a wiring diagram as the motor was missing a powerpack.

I am glad you like yours. They have a lot of info in them, but I find it very frustrating because it groups so many motors together. I don't like looking through 30 pages of other carb types to get to mine for instance. I just think it would be better if I could have THE service manual for my specific boat motor. I have to assume that there is a better manual out there for me................People have to use what works for them, right?
