At times will start right up, and runs great...other times just spins -no fire-, I noticed that one of the wires on the rectifier is frayed and is just hanging there with by a few strains and should be replaced, could this be the problem.....is there any thing else to check??
Thanks for the input...

I dont think the rectifier would cause a no start. On that old of a engine, there is something getting hot and not letting the engine fire. Power packs will fail if it is has old as the engine. Also check all ground wires that are on the engine and check all conections around the stator and charge coils. Check ignition coils for cracks and leaks.

Also check the neutral start swith.

When in a no start condition. Check each plug for spark. If no spark on all four plugs, power pack is probably faulty.

Next time you get a no start prob, disconnect the black/yellow from the power pack and see what happens.

Thanks for your response......I checked everything as you laid out..no cracks, no leaks no loose connections and/or ground connections.......there was no fire from either of the four plugs......it would appear that I have a faulty power pack...
