First off , Hi , I`m Dan and I have a boating problem....
I have a nice old 995 CL with an 888 . Bought it last summer have enjoyed the heck out of it but as I was doing My pre launch inspection I founda small wear hole in the u-joint bellows so I am in the process of doing bellows , shift cable , u-joints , shaft seal etc. My question is the steering arm has slop on the top of the gimble ring . In my search I read the splines are probably worn and I should replace it with a square drive one ? It appears inaccessible . It has (looking up with u-joint bellows removed) an allen head shaft with a spanner nut with one straight slot in it . Advise ?? Pretty wife wants a miracle or do I need a different gimble ring ?

p.s. New to boats , not to mechanics , please be patient .
