1976 85hp obsolete part?

I have a 1976 85 hp Johnson with the Hydro-mechanical gearcase. I'm getting a little water in the gearcase.Did a pressure test and found a leak at the shifter shaft seal. The part (0385544) is a cover with a bushing/seal built in. The part is obsolete. Anyone ever repaired this problem and if so how?

Replace the o-ring, not the cover.

Every site I checked say's the part is obsolete,and it doesn't have an O ring.

Look for "o-ring, shift rod", 0318372 in the parts list; balloon item #71.

Replace this o-ring.
