I was wondering if anyone knew if and where there is a plug in the water cooling jacket that can be removed?

I've looked but didn't see anything that stood out to me so any help would be great. Thanks

Why do you want to do that? I suppose you could take the thermostat cover off, if you were wanting to check the water pump flow to the head.....

Re: 1976 75HP Cooling question?

Trying to check water pump flow to head. Bought the engine and a junk tri-hull for $100 bucks owner died. Cleaned up the carbs and rats nest out of the intake box turned the key and fired right up. Engine doesn't miss w/ good compression = good motor. However I'm unsure of where the water comes back out of after it circulates threw the block. There is no tell tale stream coming from the block or any place for it to come out. Someone said the 2 exhaust ports on the back of the motor but when I put the muffs on and run it no water comes out of them just water from gear case. I took apart the water pump and the impeller must have been just replaced it looked that good so I ruled that out. So now I'm trying to find out if there is a plug that I can take out and check to see if the water is circulating.

"I tried to look at the parts manual so many bolts its hard to tell and no description saying plug that I can see" if you do not take the time to study the diagrams you will never fix the motor. you can enlarge the diagrams.

above the top spark plug is the thermostat cover, while there just replace parts 100,101,102,103,37. they are long overdue. also you need to water pump kit in the gearcase.

the motor does not have a Tale Tell hose, the exhaust relief posts on the back of the leg is the tale tell, you should get a mist or droplets out of these ports when the motor is idleing.

Read THE TOP SECRET FILE, good info for what you are doing.

Re: 1976 75HP Cooling question?

I checked the water pump already and some had replaced it recently.

Yes I do get mist and droplets out of those exhaust ports. Thought maybe the water should come out stronger if not I think I'm all good. I will replace the thermostat parts anyways. Thanks

Re: 1976 75HP Cooling question?

Ok, I removed the thermostat housing. Placed the thermostat in water to see if it worked and sure enough it opened. I think I just wasn't running the engine long enough for it to warm up and open the thermostat to circulate the water. Without the thermostat in water pumped threw so I think I'm all good. Thanks for the help.
