I just bought this motor and its not peeing I cranked it up no prob there was no water comming out the pee hole just a lil smoke. Well I kept it running for a couple of minuets just to see if maybe it needed to heat up a little but then there was alot of smoke comming out of the pee hole. So I shut it down. now before I try to pull out the impeller I would like to try to run it without the Thermostat installed to see if its just a bad T-stat. Can anyone tell me the location of the T-stat Im not familiar with this style motor and mercury. Please any help I want to go fishing today. Thanks

This motor has no thermostat. Replace the impeller.

While you have the lower unit off, blow air up the water tube and make sure it's free-flowing thru the powerhead. You can also hook a water supply up and see if you have proper circulation.

If not, you have other problems which could include silted-up block (pull the block cover over the spark plug holes and clean out); a squeezed-off water tube grommet under the powerhead (requires powerhead removal); or perhaps broken-off impeller blades in the water tube or block.

Anyhow, the most common on these, especially when sitting for a long time, is a curled-up impeller.

HTH..............ed
