Hi, I am new to the forum but it looks like some members have a good handle on the 2602s that I just picked up. I just ordered a service manual but cant wait to start digging into this little puppy. Motor starts and runs fine but I want to make sure that the impeller assembly is pumping water. Not sure how to do this. I dont see any water exiting the holes in the shaft or any thing like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: 1976 2 hp evinrude Water Pump

I bought one of those brand new in 76. It was my first BRAND NEW boat motor and I paid $270 for it. Kind of wish I had it back, I'd mount it on the wall above the fireplace.

There's no tell-tale port or thermostat on them and I was constantly putting my hand back there to see if it was misting. That's about all it would do at low rpm is mist. AT full throttle it'll spit out a little water but not much. I got use to it, it's just the way they are. J6J Champion plug @.030 and the points gap at .020. By all means put a new water pump in it then you'll know it's good.

Thanks for the info. My only other question then would be which port or hole would the misting come out of Im not seeing anything.

dont even risk it nkar, if you dont know when the pump was replaced, just replace it. its a relatively cheap part ($15 or so) and then you know that the pump itself is ok.
