Took the boat out this past weekend for the second time this year. After allowing the motor to warm up I gave it some throttle to get up on plane and bang, crash, bang, she shuts down. Oh oh, I go to start the motor and clunk no go. We decide to drop the kicker and go fishing anyways. So later when we load up the boat on the trailer I decide to give the motor a start. She fires up easily and idles and seems to rev just fine. Hmmmm, ?????? I decided to try it again the next day and once again she fires up perfectly so I throw it into reverse and I'm able to motor off the trailer. The power seems a little on the weak side but I was able to back up. A new problem is discoverd, I almost have no steering control which must be related to my other issues.

Any ideas?????

dont see how steering would effect engine/drive operation. Could've hit something. I also had a case in my own outdrive that a small peice of bearing broke and intermittently jammed the drive and a couple times causing an engine shutdown.

could've also broke a connecting rod.

where to start? I think you need an opinion from someone that can hear and see and feel whats' going on.

I think you're electric shift, but are you tru-course steering or do you have the through hull type? If you're tru-course, I'm wondering if you might have had some sort of a failure that interfered with your ball gear. Have you taken the drive off and looked at it?
