Hello fellow boaters, I'm new to the "post" side of the forums but I've got a question that I can't seem to answer after WAY to much time googling and I know there are some intelligent members here that can help me out.
I've got a 1975 merc 850 thunderbolt that has a bad rectifier. I know its not an expensive part but I have some Johnson parts that are from a 1999 50hp, including rectifier/ regulator 18-5827 that is free and has a regulator built in! I'm gona assume everyone knows where I'm going with this haha!
Well...... Will it work? It has the same two yellow wires and red but with a grey wire also, wich I'm sure is a tach wire. I hope someone can help me out with this as I would rather be on the water!!!

Re: 1975 mercury 85hp rectifier/regulator question?

Well now I kinda feel dumb for asking :facepalm:lol, but the Johnson part appears to be pricey and didn't know if their was an obvious reason it would not work that I may have overlooked and didn't want to burn it up.
Well I adapted it to the case and changed all the wiring ends and crossed my fingers....... Well now my tach works and it seems to be working well ( my meter has decided to crap out but I'm lighting my 12v test light on the output lead) so guess I'm back in business!! I see a new multi meter in my not so distant future haha!
Thanks people for the encouragement!
