1975 Mercruiser 165 strait 6 where to attach the negative battery cable?

I recently purchased a Bayliner with a 1975 Mercruiser 165 engine. The boat had no battery and no battery cables. My first step in getting the boat running is to install the battery and battery cables. I know the positive cable goes to the starter solenoid where the red arrow is in the photo, I am just not exactly sure there the negative cable goes. I know it is attached and grounded to the engine block but do not know where. The wiring diagrams just say to the engine block. It looks like it could have been attached where the starter is also partially attached/supported to the engine block - where the yellow arrow is in the picture. Could anyone tell me if this is correct or where the correct connection would be? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a lot of work to do on this boat and want to ensure I do it correctly and safely.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,....... The bolt in yer picture, will most certainly work,.....

Usually,..... One or more of the bolts that holds the flywheel cover to the block, has a threaded stud on it's head,......

Or like BD said, any bolt on the block or manifold will do,.....

if you want to attach it to the stud where the arrow is, have at it. just remove the paint prior to bolting the cable, then seal the connection with marine electrical varnish when you are done.

or if you want to bolt it to any of the flywheel bolts thats fine to. thats where the cable was attached originally
