I have a 1975 6hp johnson that was running about two years ago and haven't used it since. I cleaned the carbs and reinstall and it won't start. I sprayed starting fluid and it runs for two-three secs and dies. I also used fresh fuel. Would this mean I still have a clogged carb?man I'm so frustrated and wish this issue can be behind me... Arghhghh....any help would be great and encouraging...

Certainly sounds like a fuel delivery issue, aside from a clean carb you will need a clean pick-up tube in the fuel tank, clean fuel line to the carb, clean fuel filter (either in-line or at the entrance of the carb),..and a functioning fuel pump/diaphragm. One way to check these items is to remove fuel line where it enters the carb, spin engine over and see if sufficient fuel comes out of line.

If it won't start, it means there's still no fuel getting into the cylinder, pull the carb off and clean every nook and cranny.

When you have the carb off make sure the high speed jet in the float bowl of the carb is clean. Run a packing wire through it. It's underneath the plug in the bowl.

Thanks for the responses I really appricate it. I just realized looking at the parts diagram that I'm missing number 21(gasket to nozzle in float bowl). Would this gasket prevent my engine from starting? I'm hoping this is the problem and will re clean carb. I did find a cheaper tool to use to take out the orfice in the bottom of the float bowl. I will post back the product when I reinstall gasket and re the carb. But would this gasket cause it not to start? Thanks

yes it could...that gasket allows fuel entering the nozzle to come through the orfice plug < main jet > only..w/o it the bottom of the nozzle sits just above the fuel level in the float bowl or it's submerged in the fuel depending on the height of your float level, either way the effects are an engine that can't run properly, if at all
