I need to replace my top water grommet and I'm having a really hard time getting it to seat. I first tried to put the grommet on the the water tube to see if i could install both at the same time and it wouldn't go in because of the ears sticking out. I then used a 16inch screwdriver passed the seat with the grommet sitting on top of the seat and tried pushing the ears into its postion but it wouldn't budge. Can anyone give me advice on how to get this grommet seated so i can install the water tube? It's the long shaft model that the water grommet is in the middle.

Finally got the grommet in. How far should the water tube go thru the too of the grommet? It seems its only going in about a 1/4 inch. Should I use the Peramex sealer?

jmo...but i would put it back together and see what happens. if you end up taking it apart, the permatex may cause you grief in the long run.

Try marine grease on the tube.

Does anyone know how far the water tube should sit. When I push it down into the grommet it doesn't go into deep

It should go through the rubber part and bang into metal above it that prevents it from going any further. Certainly more than the 1/4 inch you speak of.
