1975 gm 307 rpm operating range

The engine is in a 1975 25 foot cruiser, straight inboard. Does anyone know what the operating rpms of the engine should be?

A buddy is buying it against my better judgement he is thrilled that the inside is nice.

Ayuh,... I'd guess 4200/ 4400 with a 2bbl, 'n 4400/ 4800 with a 4bbl...

What is it? OMC, Mercruiser, Crusader, Chris Craft ???????? I could guess to, but doesn't help in the long run. It's still a guess.
