1975, 850 merc.

The lower unit on this 850, has a hole on each side , about 4 inchs from the front edge, the holes are

at the same level as the oil fill hole. Can anyone tell what they are for? I`ll try to put up some pics. THANKS......HAS

Those are drain holes to allow any trapped water to drain from the aft shift shaft recess. Prevents freezing of the water and rupturing of the case.
