1975 50hp evinrude cooling ?

i am wondering if you can tell if the water pump is working by running in a tank with without overheating the motor. im hearing that there is no pee tube. just getting started onthis project. cant wait to get this boat floating. i just want to make sure everything is right before i go for it. thanks for any insight.

You can run it in a barrel, no problem. You need to make sure the water level is above the impeller housing.

If the motor is new to you....you need to drop the lower unit and inspect it. It may be working now, but just hours away from failing.

I made my neighbor inspect his impeller last week...and we found that 3 of the impeller vanes were split and ready to fall off.

Yup.

A bad impeller can turn a great running motor into a 'parts motor' in a hurry.
