Hello,

First of all let me say that I am waiting for my service manual to arrive via the postal service but thought I may get some ideas before it gets here. This motor seems to break a shear pin often. Is this pin easily changed by a novice and would this problem make you want to sell it or is it no big deal?

Thanks!

Shear pin?

Do you mean the pin that goes through the prop? If so, it is very easy to fix/replace. Just pull it out and put another one in. If I am thinking of the right pin, just quit hitting underwater garbage and you wont have that problem.

cellaway1,

Your question is kind of strange.

Shear pins? Yes, you can break one every two feet, if your not careful.

What type of environment are you running this thing in?

Re: 1975 25hp question

I had an engine that habitually broke shear pins, but the reason was obvious - the shear pin hole on the propshaft was deformed as was the shear pin slot on the propeller. Naturally, the root cause was running into the bottom one too many times.
I cleaned up the propshaft with a file, and had the prop rehubbed. It stopped breaking shear pins then.
Something like this going on?
