1975 115 INLINE 6 MERC

Hi Guys<br /><br />I have a 1975 straight inline 6 115 merc & need to know how to set the timing - the idle timing should be ? and then how far to allow it to advance at what rpm's and what rpm/ timing the butterflys should start opening?<br /><br />Im a little new to this so all advice welcome !

Several things need to be done..Your really going to need a manual to do it correctly. Worth every penny.

Welcome Gjb, These numbers are based on Merc. 1150 with distributor CD ignition: {Firing order-145236} {Spark plug- AC V40FFM or Champ. L76V} {Maximum advance-21* BTDC} . {Throttle primary pickup- 4-6* BTDC}........ {Throttle secondary pickup- Not adjustable}. {Full throttle RPM 5000-5500 RPM}........... {Idle RPM 550-650 in forward gear}........{Water pressure at cylinder block.......... 2-5 PSI @ 2000 RPM}. I believe you have the distributor cd ignition. If not, let me know and I will post the right numbers. If you want to post an email address, I will try to scan the pages you need. GJB...for the rude basics, grizzly is right with the wot timing, most sixes like 21* to 23* max timing...idle timing is put where the motor needs it to be to idle well and maintain a decent idle speed....most run between 2* before and 8* before TDC....first throttle movement is in this range, with ALL timing 'in' when secondary throttle pickup really starts opening the carbs up...minimal carb opening before maximum timing is acheived....
