The boat is a 1974 Sea Ray SRV 220, with the 255-TRS stern drive and 255 Ford 351 engine. I got it 3 years ago and it had been sitting for a long time. I went through the stern drive, replaced bellows, seals, etc. The boat has ran perfect since.
Just recently, it has no power under load. The engine runs perfect and the out drive runs great until I put the boat in the water. Then the engine RPMs won't go over 1800 RPM and the boat won't go over 10 MPH. In nuetral, the engine will go to 5000 RPM if I wanted to. But once it's in gear, won't go over 1800 RPM. It shifts into forward and reverse very smoothly. The prop is still the same and has no issues, and the out drive is tip top.
I think the problem is in the MercTrans II MCM-A automatic transmission, I just replaced the fluid with Type F and the old fluid was a little dark. But since I have to drive 2 hours to put the boat in the water, I thought I'd see if there are any suggestions on what to look for on this automatic tranny.
Thanks!
