i have a 1974 mercury 115h.p. inline 6 that the mechanic says the trigger don't work.he says it will be about $600.00 to fix and it's about three hours labor.I cant afford that much is it that hard and complicated to do,is there a lot of little pieces that will fly everywhere when i open it?is it really three hours labor?

It is basically a subassembly under the flywheel with a few wires. I would find a used one, and find someone to put it on cheap. Of course you get what you pay for but here in Dallas, we have a lot of independent shops that can beat the dealers labor. Get a manual and tackle it yourself(if your competent). On motors that old, it ends up being a bunch of money, relative to the overall value of the motor. :D

i610288

Try to find a used distributor. Hopefully you can find a used one for a lot less than $600. It connects by three wires.

Good Luck,

Gold Bear ;)
