1974 glasstron boat ????????

guys..i know where i can get a 1974 glasstron boat . i think 16 footer.. anyways i have asked around and even on here about the engine size. this boat has a merc 140 on it. the boat says only up to 100.. should i keep this engine , which is just like the one the blew up on me , or go down to the correct size? i know about insurance and what the bigger engine might couse if i have accident but im trying to figure out if thisboat can handle that engine.. what you think?

Charlie, I have a 1975 thundercraft 16 ft that was rated for a 95 with a 150 inline merc. Only thing diffrent from any other of the 4 boats I have is it will fly. I think it will be o.k. Can you test drive it? That way you can tell how it does. Tim <br /><br />P.S. Sometimes more is better!

Tim "thinks" it will be okay.<br /><br />That must mean that the USCG and the manufacturer of the boat are stupid.<br /><br />PS. Sometimes more is too danged much.

No JB I don't think they are stupid.<br /> He just ask would his boat handle it. Lot's of boats of that size I see are overpowerd. He just ask if it would handle it. If he ask would a 50 would work on a 15 ft johnboat I would have said no for sure but I see many boats(like he is talking about) rated for a 100 with a 150. And you are right sometimes more is to much. Also he knows he could be get in trouble with it.
