I have a 1986 Glass Master boat with a 1974 50 hp Evinrude motor. I can't get the boat to idle. I did do a compression test and I'm getting 110 psi out of bother sides. The first problem I would like to try and fix is the throttle control. I have a side mount throttle control and it says Power Shift II on it. At one time I had no problems with it but I was trying to see if there was any adjustment to the idle but now I can't get it to go into reverse. It will go forwards but not backwards. I tried looking online but can't find anything that shows how its put together or adjustments. If you can offer any help to the problems I have I would appreciate it.

Unhook the cable from the engine and make sure that it moves smoothly through the whole range. With your engine not running and your cable unhooked from the engine make sure that you can shift it manually. If at one time you had no problems I would say that you are due for a new cable.

Nothing to adjust inside the control box, all the adjustments are at the motor end. Except maybe the start in neutral switch.

are you sure you adjusted the throttle cable and not the shift cable?

It seems as though the throttle control moves freely from straight up to forward but when I go to move the throttle to reverse it doesn't want to move. It worked fine til I took it apart and maybe its how I put it back together. I can't even find any info on the throttle control. It says Power Shift II on the face of it

I think you answered your own question. Something was not but back correctly. Most control boxes are fairly simple, open it again and look around. Post some pictures of it if you can.

I just wanted to report that I found the problem with the control not going into reverse. It was a stupid mistake I made when I took it apart. I moved the cog and when I aligned it back up it was already in the forward position. But now I just have to fix the warm up lever. If I push the warm up lever all the way down so it puts the engine in neutral it idles so low the engine dies. If I just tap it down til its at an idle I can put it in gear and go forwards and backwards. Where would the adjustment on the warm up lever or would it be the low speed idle adjustment? Thanks for all your help!!
