Hi

I've just bought this boat. Current owner tells me the trim/tilt is tilt only, but I'm sure looking at the pump it is trim AND tilt. Can anyone confirm by just looking at it ? I don't collect it until next week but am eager to know.

Thanks

That's a PT&T with a Calco pump if it's complete. Can't see the cylinder on the port side.

I always assumed (perhaps incorrectly?) that the large tall cylinder on the starboard side was used on the PT&T; a shorter cylinder on the starboard side indicated Power Tilt only. The cylinder on the motor pictured (looks like a 1973 Lark 50) is the taller one that would be consistant with PT&T. For what it's worth, PT&T was initially available on 1973-up motors, 65-horse and up. Power Tilt by itself was all that was available on that 50 new; Power Tilt was available back into the early to mid 1960s on V4s & the Big Twins.

Partly right, but the OMC PT&T was not an option in 1973. It came out later and could be added. In 1973 you could get a tilt unit.

What is shown in the picture is a PT&T unit added as an option, it may or may not be complete with both cylinders.

Yes I always thought the taller cylinder was a clue as well. I'm fairly sure its complete as in this photo you can see the other side, ram extended. Owner tells me its working fine anyway. Thanks for your replies.

Off the top of your head, do you know why some are painted green and others like mine are blue ? Someone told me once it was because they were assembled in different parts of the world.

Cheers

They never used the calco pump in a tilt only system. You have a Calco pump. Therefore you have trim and tilt. If the Calco motor ever gives out don't even bother trying to repair or replace it. It is cheaper in the long run to throw it out and get Prestolite.

The Evinrude 50 was painted that silver-gold colour from 1971 through 1975 EXCEPT 1973 (the only year the Lark 50 was blue). An exception would be the 1974/75 50 Sizzler (mostly white with some dark blue). From 1976-on the motor had a larger displacement and was rated at 55 horses (flywheel) but they were still silver-gold (a sport model, the 55-S, was offered in dark blue & silver during that time)

Hmmm... that is an interesting bulletin (thank you for posting!) I wonder if it is referring simply to a service replacement of just the cylinder? The reason I say that is because I remember seeing the PT&T option listed in the 1973 OMC Accessories brochure (see the attachment)
