I'm having a tough time making up my mind. Maybe everyone here can help.

The story is I picked up a parts boat/trailer. I need the trailer, and will get the cleaned up and running well to sell. All the wood guts of the hull are shot, like accidentally put my foot through the floor while checking things out shot. So that's off to the dumpster, no time right now for another total restore.

My question is, since finding the right color paint to do a proper restoration seems tough on this motor, I'm thinking of updating the look to the more modern all white Evinrudes with either reproduction vintage decals or some more updated ones. What's the opinion on this? Try and track down NOS paint and keep the original colors, or go resto-mod on it?

Here are some fairly old spray paint can parts number from Bombardier for this vintage Evinrude: 1971-77 light blue: 771247. 1971-75 gold: 771252, 1974-82 silver: 771278, 1974-75 performance blue: 771273. I am sure all of these supercede to today's part numbers, if they are still in production. All of these colors are identified by the actual supplier paint code number in the Bombardier Dealer Parts and Accessories Guide, so you can custom make the color if the factory has discontinued them. See you local dealer

I would suggest pricing the decals first; you might change your mind. I priced some once; very pricey.

I think I found a few of those gold cans online, might do that. I wish this motor had some of the blues on it, they look pretty nice. Mine is off white and baby poo green/gold. The decals off the "auction site" aren't too bad especially if I go with the aftermarket versions. The OEM repros can get pricey.

Keep in mind that old aerosol paint sometimes won't spray out of the nozzle. Regardless of how many different nozzles you try.

I took a '76 Johnson and redesigned the engine color scheme after I rebuilt it. I just didn't like the Johnson green they used. So I designed my own colors and layout. You can see it in my signature link if you're interested in it. I airbrushed the design and even the Johnson Sea Horse emblem and then clear coated it for a good shine. I used PPG automotive paints and I think it look pretty nice... Just a thought...
