1974 70 horse johnson lower unit

The lower unit on my 1974 johnson 70 horse has water in it .What seal should I change to fix this problem

Pull the prop first and see if theres fishing line wraped around the shaft first. But if theres away you can pressurize the l/u in water or soap bubbles, that would tell you! You will only need 12lbs psi to do it! But no more than that!

Took the prop off and notice oil in the shaft . could this be my problem?

It's prabably time to re-seal the lower unit. This motor is only 37 years old now and seals will start going bad one by one, until all are replaced.

Don't forget to get the seals for the drain/fill and vent plugs as well, alot of people overlook them.

Damn it's hard to imagine that my 75hp is already 27 years old/young.

Ahhhh, don't feel bad. I have a 35, that is 52 years old now and all my other motors go up to 70 years old. :D:D
