I see a used unit on ebay and would like to upgrade my 1974 85HP from non tilt & trim to this unit which is 1973. I've been examining my OMC manual and it looks like the 1974 has mount brackets that attatch to all four bolts and the picture shown on ebay's unit only attatch to the lower two bolts. seems like Evinrude revised to a stronger mounting using all four bolts in 1974. Should the two bolt design be lesser than the four? looks like it will have a tendency to dig into the transom.

i think the 73 didnt have a tube in the pivit for the stering . the 74 did . 73 had the clamps that screwed in to the transom. 74 just hooked over the top so it will require 4 bolts . i think it will interchange .you may have to change the stering cable to mount on the boat with a nuckle joint or a tube that mounts on the transom under the motor . papasage
