1973 starcraft capri overheating

Hi everyone, I posted last spring about shifting cables, that's fixed but now she's overheating!! Anyone have any ideas, she ran great but just overheats at one point we smelled rubber burning!! Do u think the impellers burnt up? Thank you in advance as the snows all melting now(Thank GOD) and we didn't have a whole season last year on boat would like to get headstart on fishing season this year!!! Thanks again :)

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,.... The 1st thing to do in Any overheat situation is to change the Impeller,...

If ya smelt rubber runnin' on the wagon, get the Whole water pump Kit, as yer housin's are No doubt, Fried,....

If ya smelt the rubber while runnin' in the water,... did the boat slow down at the same time,..??
If so, the Coupler is Junk, probably from bad alignment due to a rotten transom,...

thank you for quick response Bondo, the boat did not slow down I'm assuming thats a good thing, I will get water pump kit, that just involves removing lower unit, correct?

Ayuh,... That's correct,.... but ya still gotta find what ya burnt up,...

What motor ya got,..??

A Close inspection of the rubber exhaust couplers, 'n the exhaust shutters in the exhaust down-pipe are where I'd start lookin',...
A lack of water flow, will Smoke them pieces, Quickly,...

GM 120 horsepower 153 I/L 4 im going to get water pump kit now Thanks!!
