I was talking to my mechanic today and he said in order to replace the water pump belt, he needs to pull the motor out of the boat to replace it with a cherry picker ? does that sound right, I cant believe that a manufacturer would make it that difficult to replace a belt. this is in a 1973 21' rheinell 2250. can some one help me out here. i think he is trying to rip me for labor. how are you supposed to really do it.

Thanks,
Jeff

Ayuh,... Ya pull 2 bolts from the portside of the mount, slip the spacer block out, 'n slip the new belt in...
Then of course, reassemble what ya took apart...

Wow, a mechanic thought you had to pull the entire motor to replace a belt???

Bondo-o, of course, is right on. One good idea I've read a few times is to slide a spare belt in there and let it dangle on the engine mount while you're replacing the bad one. Then if it ever has a problem on the water, you just cut off the bad one and slip on the spare that's already through the motor mount.

Your mechanic might be explaining things wrong. he may be using a cherry picker to hang the motor on while he undoes the front mount partially.

But you dont need to REMOVE the motor to do it.

Bummer about the overheat and possible cracked head. if you can find another motor. I just replaced the 165 hp omc in my boat, it is not that hard of a job. the hardest part is taking the drive off and getting it back on if you have never played with them.. I learned a BUNCH about them
