I ordered seirra pump housing kit 18-3317 to replace my existing pump assembly and I noticed the sierra kit does not have a oil or face seal on the water pump body. the existing pump assembly has a seal in the body. My question is do I need to order this item seperately for this specific kit or is the seal not needed for my application? I read on other posts that the seal and tool is included with the mercruiser kit. I also have a quicksilver pump kit 46-96148A 8 and the seal is missing on it also. My guess is that I need to order sierra part number 18-2599 face seal kit to install on the pump body during assembly. Is that correct?

Is this thick rubber washer the only seal needed shown in pic (middle white housing).

Your old pump is original, they don't make 'em like that no more.
The rubber ring you show on the white housing is how it's done these days.

PS, that 18-2599 face seal kit is for an Alpha I Gen II (91 and newer) drive, not a MC-1 drive like you have.
It's great to read old posts, but make sure you are looking at the same kind of drive as you have.

Thanks You! Don S Does the rubber ring sit on top or go down in the housing?
