We had some recent thievery at our river camp. Noticed somene had unscrewed the end piece to my Merc throttle handle/tiller. I put it back on but it was very hard to shift on my next outing. In fact believe I had to start it in a non start position and shift it in a none shift position. Which leads me to believe I put the handle back together incorrectly. Is there a certain way that end piece goes back on? Is it supposed to be turned down tightly or does that also control the ease of shifting? Thanks for any help.

I don't know the answer but why don't you do the opposite to what you did and see. If you screwed it tight, why not loosen it up and see what happens.

Thanks, Mark. Will give it a try. Located my vintage manual but no picture or description of how/where the tiller handle assembles. At least I could still use it on Friday .
