1973 johnson 115hp stuck in the "up" position

i just bought anouther boat and the motor is stuck in the up position, it does not have power tilt/trim so i'm figuring its the lift assist shocks but i can't find where i can buy them to replace them.... does anyone have any ideas?

That would be fairly unusual for the shocks to be siezed. But they are available from dealers or BRP for a hefty price. http://shop.evinrude.com/

You are sure it isn't the tilt/trail lock, right?

yeah its not the tilt trail lock.... I guess i'll have to remove the shocks and see if the motor will lower then... after that i guess the only other thing it could be is the actual pivot point of the motor... heres hoping for an easy fix

Well i after looking it over i decided that the cuprit was the starboard side shock..... so i tried taking the pins out holding the shocks in their locations but they are too rusted and swelled to remove... so i just cut the shock and once thru the stainless steel rod the motor swung down freely.... so now its time to do a quick tune up and see if this motor turns over.... if it does i'll drop the lower unit and replace the impeller and change out the lower units fluids and rewire all the lights and add what i need to add to update the boat...
