I was having an intermittent spark loss problem on this motor and being that it was so old and a lot of wires were damaged I decided to replace all of the electronics on the motor. I purchased everything from Marine engine.com all CDI Electronics. I replaced the stator the sensor coil all 4 ignition coils and the power packed. I also replaced the rectifier but somehow I got the wrong one and it caused some RPM limitations so I put the old one back on today and that problem went away. The motor is not idling steadily. It seems like the linkages are off for the new stator and sensor coil. I had the motor running but it would not stay running when I put it into gear or into reverse. If I let the motor run for a long time it would jump up and down in RPMs slightly with no movement in linkage at all while I watched it. This is the second time I purchased a rectifier for this motor and both times I've got the wrong one they both have limited the motor from performing. Why is this and where can I get the right one? Two different companies have sent me two different rectifier's that do the same thing. Also when the wrong rectifier was installed which was the new one the motor would not start for crap and when I did finally get it started it would not run for very long at all. That problem went away when I put the old one back on but I'm still having issues with not being able to put it into gear without installing even when I gun it. On a side note I have already cleaned the carbs and not to mention they were running perfectly before I replaced all the electronics. I also just replace the fuel pump have brand new fuel lines and strainer with a brand-new ball and filter new gas as well I did switch brands of oil though. As I said before the motor was running absolutely fine before I replace the electronics the only issue was from time to time it would not startperiod I would go to turn the key and it would just turn over and dump gas out the exhaust. I could not figure out what the problem was because every time I would start testing and it would start before I got done with the test so I just decided I had the money I would replace all the electronics.
