I have been attempting to work on my sons 1973 Evinrude 25 HP; motor serial number 25302 A E 0007453. I made a new cork gasket for the fuel pump filter but when I put pressure on the fuel line it leaks between the filter and the gasket no matter how tight it is. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

I found out that you are correct. Thank you. I ordered new parts and now I have a big question; Does anyone have any tips or tricks for getting this 1973 25 hp Evinrude started? It has not been started since 2010 and it would only idle then. Thank you in advance for any and all help in this!

go to the highlighted in yellow Sticky at the beginning of this Forum titled Top Secret Files....read all the ones that you think will pertain to your situation....if you'll post back with compression numbers, spark test results, fuel delivery observations, then we'll have a good starting point...best to have your motor in water comparable to the depth it would be if mounted to your boat transom in the event it does start

Does anyone have the starting information that was on the tiller/ throttle handle? The information on this one is not legible at all.
Thank you for any help in advance.

With the motor in neutral and choke pulled out. Advance the throttle until it hits the throttle stop and pull the rope or turn the key. EDIT The things printed on the handle might have been accurate when it was new but probably not now. It probably said fast ,start and slow.

pump the fuel bulb connecting the fuel line from the tank to the connection on the motor until firm...apply the choke < manual or electric >...twist the throttle grip towards run as far as it will advance with the motor in neutral...try to start the engine..if it doesn't attempt to start after 5 pulls or so...push the choke off and try it again...at the least you need to know that the spark will jump a 1/4" open air gap and that fuel is reaching the carb...if it hasn't been started in 6 years in all likelihood it needs a water pump impeller, the carb disassembled and cleaned, and the spark checked
