how do you check the coils to see if they are bad or not? 1973 evinrude 85 hp model# 85393M

thanks, what would be the best way to check the coils that are on the engine now when i got this engine the guy said that two of the coils were bad but he failed to say which coils

Pull the wires, pull the plugs, ground the plugs and crank 'er over. The one that sparks is the good one...

You can also check on here for a "spark tester" to make sure the spark will jump the proper 7/16ths gap. Sometimes the plugs will still spark but won't function properly because it's too weak.
