I just did a compression test on this outboard and all cyclinders were 115. Is this within the appropriate range for this outboard?

Also, this outboard is having problems planing off and accelarating to normal speed. It appears that after all 4 spark plugs were replaced, the engine was ran and upon removing the 4 spark plugs, all of them appear to have fuel on them except the bottom plug. It is as if it were still brand new looking (not a drop on it).

What does this indicate? This outboard had sat at one time and then was run with old gasoline (without a stabilizer)... could this have contributed?

Compression seems fine but sounds like you may have a fuel delivery problem. Too lean maybe? If it sat for an extended period without stabilizer in the fuel I would think a good carb cleaning would be helpful. One question though, is it still on the same boat?? Heavier boat?? If you have changed it to a larger or heavier boat you may have more of a problem with propeller selection than an engine problem.

yes, it has always been on the same boat. When troubleshooting the fuel delivery problem for this particulary situation, what should be checked?

Clean/overhaul/rebuild the carb(s). Adjust them to specs in manual. Then make sure you have fresh fuel mix.

A super clean plug somewtimes means a water leak
in that cylinder.Of course if that cylinder had no spark it would be clean as well but the plug would be damp with gas.Be sure you use a manual
to avoid damaging components when testing for spark.

thanks for the replies gentlemen... just curious... how could it be the carbs if ONLY 1 cylinder is dry and none of the others are? wouldn't at least 2 cyclinders be affected if it was a carb?

Yes, it could be reeds though. If the plug is running clean sound like water leaking into that cylinder, that would keep the plug looking new. Do you get good spark?
