1973 / 50 mercury stalling / hesitating

I have a 1973 50 that runs great at idle but when I give it throttle it sputters and will die if not choked briefly after that it runs great (besides being a gas hog). I can smell fuel , and have replaced the fuel lines. I think the 4 cylinders have 2 carbs and this might be a fuel issue . Not sure where to start looking for the cause. a can of sea-foam seemed to help until yesterday and it was back. thanks in advance .

Have you adjusted the mixture screws?
Have you done a timing and synch check?
How old is the fuel?
What mixture?

With a motor of that vintage, if the carbs haven't been done for a while, It would be wise to go through them.

If you smell gas, run it on the hose with the cowling off. Look for leaks.... :)
