1973 25hp starter wire help w/pic's

Hello all! I have a problem with my motor that I need some help with.

In this picture you will see the safety switch in the back with a wire going to it from the solenoid. On the other side of the safety switch there is no wire connected to the terminal, is this correct? Should I have a wire going somewhere from the left terminal off the safety switch?

I tested the solenoid and it clicks and the starter turns also. I just cant seem to figure out the switch and how it works since there seems like its missing something to complete a circuit.

I cannot start the motor with the key, this is my problem.

I believe that the switch is grounded to the engine thru the mounting bracket.

If the solenoid clicks, it is "probably" good. Is the battery charged, all terminals clean and shiny? I had to shim my switch out with a washer behind the mounting bracket to bring it closer to the lock-out bar. Disconnect the wire to the safety switch and see what happens.

Make sure that it is in neutral (easy stuff first). Does it turn over with the key? Does it start with the recoil starter?

Check the battery, and have it load tested.

Only one wire to the safety switch. That's normal. It is because they use a universal off-the shelf switch.

Thanks so much you guys for the quick response !! I took an ohm meter to the switch and depressed it and I still had a tone. I then grounded the lead and turned the key, and it worked!

No more pull starts!
