I have a 1972 50 hp Murc 2-stroke 500 Thunderbolt outboard motor. I had problems cold starting this motor until I read a forum about spraying fuel into the carb, then it started everytime. Someone at one time posted on how to make a spray system with a fuel can. Can that person send me a diagram on that system. It's a pain to take the cover off everytime to spray fuel into the carb. Thanks.

Why not fix the real problem rather than jury-rig a workaround. Playing with gas is a dangerous exercise and not something you want to be doing on a regular basis.

Those motors are notoriously hard to start when cold. Verify that the choke system is operating properly and that you are following the proper starting procedure. A fully charged battery is needed for max starting RPM.

You have to "flood" them to make them start when cold, at least if this engine is anything like the inline 6 of the same vintage. Prime the bulb until hard, and then give a couple of more squeezes for good measure, and I bet it will start within 5-10 seconds at this point.

Previous posts are good. Fresh fuel, charged battery, choke solenoid working properly, throttle advance lever slightly engaged. Press to choke while cranking with hand on throttle advance to reduce rpm when starts. It might take 2 or 3 times to get it to idle. My 2 cents from experience on my 70 Merc 500.
