I have a 140 hp Merc with all the controls but there are some things disconnected. I have the battery connections and the cable to the control. Three wires come out to what I would think to be a fuse panel (panel not there). Can someone tell me which wire goes where from the motor control box ? Also do the trim cables hook directly to the battery ? Lastly I have worked on cars before but the grounding system on a boat looks different, are all grounds based on the negative terminal of the battery ?

They use a standard wiring harness for rigging... a lot of it is for the power trim, gauges, etc.. If you do not have any of these components... then there are certainly going to be extra wires... If you don't believe me go look under your car/truck hood!!!!

Yep...your electrical system utilizes a negative ground circuit.

Walt
