I have a 1972 Mercury 50hp Thunderbolt on a 16' Fiberglass Terry Bass Boat. The Mercury cranks and runs like a sewing machine except for one issue. It doesn't seem to top out and will not put the boat on top of the water. As opposed to fooling with it, I purchased a 40hp Yamaha for the boat. What is the 50hp Motor worth? I am going to ebay it and looks like the parts --- which are all good, including controls---seem to be in demand. Any ideas on an asking price?

I'd put a 700 dollar reserve on it (plus shipping) and then run it on open auction and see where it goes! But on second thought, if it runs that good, I'd find another hull to put it on and have a spare boat for when the main boat is in the shop!

Thank you for your reply. I had a buddy tell me the boat was to heavy. But I still don't understand why the 50hp won't get it on top of the water!

Unless that boat is 1000#+, I would think it would plane, with that 50.
