recently squired a Starcraft SS 16’ with an older Evinrude 70hp triumph. I was able to get the motor running initially with some gas in the carb before I took it off to replace the transom. Upon inspection of the motor there are multiple wires that have been cut, I am assuming some old modification. I cannot find a diagram for wiring to figure out what the wires do. Any help is appreciated.

thanks,
Kassun

The first year for the 70hp was 1974, Post the model # so the year can be established and perhaps a wiring diagram can be located

The Triumph name was given to the looper triples from 1968 through 1974. In 68/69 it was 55 horse, 70/71 it was 60 horse, 72/73 it was 65 horse, 74 it was finally 70 horse. After 74 Evinrude stopped the practice of naming all their outboard models. 1973 was a change in the lower unit shift mechanism from hydro-electric to more of a mechanical system, plus you also had the option of tilt pin steering mounted on the motor itself.

You have a 1972 65hp. Hydro-Electric dirve and Mag CD ignition. Should have a yellow plug on other side.
