i need help. i replaced the rectifier on this motor, i lost a screw and stupid is what what stupid does. i found a different screw put it. i got to the lake hooked the battery up and heard a sizzle noise. again me being me i turned the key any way. poof goes the rectifier i assume and nice burnt smell. when i pulled the cover off, to see where the problem was. my saved screw was too long and arched out causing me this headache. i have changed the solenoid and rectifier and have no power to turn starter. if i jump the starter, it will turn but no spark to start. i have now pulled both coil packs and will replace them too. my question is am i going in the right direction to fix this problem. i am not a mechanic as my screw proved but i am not scared to get my hands dirty. should i look at the key start. all wires are intact and not burnt that i can see.the inline fuse which was put in by previous owner as directed by many was not fried either. i am at a lost and just want to get out fishing. thanks in advance for all and any help.

Might want to check out boatinfo.no/lib for the manual and use the wiring diagram to follow where all the wiring goes for that circuit

The coils are not connected to the battery or starter in any way, so I doubt that is your problem. At least they are not supposed to be.
