I have a 1972 Trojan F-25, with a raw water cooled righthand rotation 1972 Chrysler 318 (Rebuilt in 1994) with a V-Drive set up. I'm considering an electronic conversion kit to replace the points and condenser. I'm not sure what kind of distributer I have; Mallory or Prestolite. It has a clip on distributer cap and has a stamped plate on the side of the distributer that reads: Chrysler 2444983 BM-4109A 4 9.

Can anyone identify the brand of this distributer or what conversion kit I need? Thanks in advance.

Re: 1972 Chrysler 318 Distributer

Man its your lucky day. As you see there isn't to many old Mopar owners here. I also have a 1972 boat that used to have a 318 in it (now has a 360ci) but I kept the distributor Chrysler 2444983 BM-4109A and upgraded it with the Pertronix kit (part # 1381A). Some here use the Pertronix II. It costs a little more but you can leave the key on for a long time without damaging it. I learned years ago that you don't leave the key on. That is why I have a 3 way key switch. You will not be sorry you upgraded it. By the way it is a Prestolite.
