1972 85hp no spark

I have a 1972 85hp evinrude that has not run in 3-4 years. There is no spark at any cylinder. Any suggestions?

Well there's lots of jokes that come to mind but I'm sure that's not what you are looking for. You have lots of things to look at but don't overlook the anti-reverse spring on the crankshaft. That's one of the things that will knock out all the spark.<br /><br />Good luck!

What is the function of the anti-reverse spring and how could this cause a engine to have no spark?
