Hi there,

I have an older 1972 80 Hp Mercury outboard with the rams on the shocks that lifts the motor.
My question would be, cause I want to take this motor off of one boat and put on my boat, how do I take it apart without getting blasted with fluid in the system? Thanks in advance!!

Don't know which 80hp motor you have, happen to have a serial number?

If the rams are part of the OB then there should be no need to take it apart, just lift the motor as one unit and install on other.

This is one 80hp trim system

Oh, I guess I should have mentioned that I want to take the pump as well, a complete trade of motor and lift.

Ya no, that's not what I have, I have the pump inside boat with hoses that go out to the motor and I need to separate the hoses to remove it.

Put motor all the way down

Disconnect lines and remove motor

So that relieves the pressure? Do I have to change that fluid at all?
Thanks!

Step #1 is----Disconnect lines at the pump.-----Then remove screws on the block where lines split to the cylinders.-----Remove motor with all lines attached.

And I was also wondering, where do I get new hoses for this system as mine are really sun damaged and no black left on them? Thanks again!

Local dealer might be able to find new originals for you ($$$ ) or aftermarket.--Many farm supply stores / industrial shops can install new hoses on your fittings.

I wrapped my hydraulic lines with electrical tape. It looked OK and lasted many years.
