1972 65 jouhnson outboard idles fine stalls on take off

i have a 65 horse johnson loop charged outboard i had it out 2 weeks ago ran like a champ a week later took it out started and idled fine. put it in forward and went to take off and it kept stalling finally after a few times it took off fairly good i fished went to go again and it died would troll fine but give it throttle and die. but could hurry up and put it in nuetral and idle all day. but it idle fine and ran great a week before? kinda puzzles me im new to boating please help. the motor has been all rebuilt and new plugs and all prior to all this. any ideas? could i had the oil to gas mix wrong? do i need the muffs on even on the lake? PLEASE HELP ALL INFO IS GREATLY APPRECIATED

should i change the spark plugs could one fouled cause this to happen?

NO muffs in the lake !! Change your plugs and if that doesn't help you may need some carb work. You may also want to check your spark and compression.

ok well took the boat out yesterday i bought new plugs fired boat up idled great took off and ran like new i stopped fished a bit went to take off again. it ran wot for about 5 min. then started missing and wanting to die. so i waited and tried this about 4 more times same thing wot wanted to die so i stopped a while then tried again and boat took off and ran like new rest of the evening! any ideas? is it gonna be ok just needs run?

Could be ignition, fuel prob etc. I'd try the fuel route first usually thats it.. These carbs dirty up quick and the slightest debris causes them to run good then bad then good again. Open up the carb clean it out with carb spray but remove float, cause cork floats dont like harsh chemicals. Blow out all passages and remove mixture needles and welch plugs too. The carb cleaning is the least expensive route so try that first. Also fuel pump could be on the way out or be clogged up as well, inexpensive as welll to rebuild. If it runs a while then bad when heats up, but then runs after cooling down then it is coils or condensers.
