Was not pumping water so I replaced the WP. Plenty of water coming out near the lower steering bracket however none from the telltale.I realize not much more than a spit should come from the engine telltale but I am getting nothing here and the engine temp rises to well into the overheat range when I shut it off. I am fair certain that the pump water tubes were correctly lined up and in place when I put the lu back in place. Suggestions?

A mtr will get hotter when you shut it off as the water drains out. Get a cheap temp gun and check the temp on when you have it in the lake. The telltale could be plugged up.

Unless it was retrofitted with a telltale, it doesn't have one. Check for a stuck t-stat. Easy way is to remove the t-stat and run the motor, see if it is still overheats.

Another likely culprit is the water tube in the leg didn't line up correctly when you replaced the impeller. Drop the leg and verify that everything is installed correctly with the water pump.

No alarm hooked up at this time. Will remove tstat and give it a try.It ran with water spitting from the exhaust but not a telltale . No water spitting out when it runs now.

I just took a look at the tstat and it was toast, just corroded. Lots of old nasty stuff jammed into it. I ran the motor and it pumped water like a fire hydrant so no problem with the new water pump install. Heck I may not even have needed to replace it. I am curious what the function of the pressure relief valve is?. Mine seems pretty tight in the grommet and not so likely to move.
