1972 40 merc, want shut off

i have a 72 40 mercury that cranks fine, runs great just want shut off with the key, can some one tell me what to look for, or how to test the switch, or the wiring harness, thanks

Sounds like your grounding wire has broken somewhere. There is a black wire that runs to the ing switch from the power pack that is the ground to kill the engine. If not that then your switch is bad.

still no luck....how can i test the switch to see if it's bad
